Ealing Man Accused of Fatal Shooting After Wake Argument

A man from Ealing is on trial for allegedly shooting his cousin dead and attempting to kill his brother following a heated argument at a family wake in Hammersmith. The Old Bailey heard that Jahmel Joseph, 29, is accused of murdering Jordan Rodney and injuring his own brother, Omar Joseph, in a violent incident that unfolded on June 11, 2025.

Details of the Alleged Attack

According to prosecutor Crispin Aylett KC, the dispute began outside a wake in Claxton Grove, where Joseph and Mr. Rodney were recorded arguing by a doorbell camera. The confrontation escalated, with Joseph allegedly leaving the scene and returning later on a motorcycle. At around 11:15 PM, two gunshots were heard, and Mr. Rodney was shot in the eye at close range, while Omar Joseph sustained injuries to his head and hand after trying to shield himself.

Mr. Rodney was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries the following day. Surgeons later removed a shotgun pellet from Omar Joseph's hand, highlighting the severity of the attack.

Police Chase and Evidence Recovery

In the aftermath, Joseph allegedly fled the scene and engaged in a police chase the next morning. His Mercedes struck multiple vehicles, causing damage to approximately 20 cars before colliding head-on with another vehicle in Isleworth. Joseph then abandoned his car and fled on foot, carrying a black bag.

Police later found the bag nearby, containing a sawn-off shotgun. Forensic analysis revealed a DNA profile matching Joseph on the trigger of the weapon, according to the prosecution.

Defendant's Response and Legal Proceedings

When confronted by his aunt, Mr. Rodney's mother, Joseph denied involvement, claiming he was at home sleeping. He has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and is prescribed medication, but made no comment during police interviews.

Jahmel Joseph faces multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, dangerous driving, and possession of a prohibited weapon. The trial continues as the court examines the evidence and witness testimonies.
