Dagenham Man Sentenced to Six Years for Unprovoked Alley Assault

A violent man from Dagenham has been jailed for six years after randomly attacking a woman in an alley, leaving her with severe facial injuries that required reconstructive surgery. Levi Silcott, 26, carried out the unprovoked assault on April 23 last year, dragging the victim along Seaview Road in the Gillingham area of Kent before pulling her into a passageway and repeatedly punching her in the face.

CCTV Evidence and Police Investigation

CCTV cameras near the crime scene captured footage of a man getting out of a car wearing clothing similar to that described by the victim. Detectives from Kent Police tracked the vehicle's movements, which led them to quickly identify Silcott as the perpetrator responsible for the horrific attack. The victim sustained serious fractures during the ordeal, highlighting the brutality of the assault.

Arrest, Trial, and Sentencing

Silcott was arrested in Ilford on May 21 and subsequently charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He was remanded in custody and denied the offence, forcing the courageous victim to endure the ordeal of a trial at Maidstone Crown Court. However, he was convicted and sentenced to six years in prison at the same court on Wednesday, February 18.

Detective Constable Emma Laimbeer, the investigating officer at Kent Police, stated: "Silcott’s violent actions were unprovoked and horrific, leaving an innocent woman with serious injuries and trauma. That he denied his actions and put the courageous victim through the ordeal of a trial was despicable. He belongs in jail and Gillingham is a much safer place for women in his absence."

The case underscores the importance of CCTV evidence in solving violent crimes and bringing offenders to justice, while also highlighting the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to protect communities from such random acts of violence.
