Whoever said that Wham! were received stone-faced by the audience at the miners’ benefit show in 1984 (Tonight the Music Seems So Loud by Sathnam Sanghera review – a heartbreaking portrait of George Michael, 2 June) must have been at a different event to the one I attended, where the audience in front of me went wild for the band. The blinding white outfits and the energy put into Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go have stuck with me to this day, and made Arthur Scargill’s oratory seem pedestrian – and it ain’t often you can say that.
