Some of us at the miners’ benefit gig went wild for Wham!

Whoever said that Wham! were received stone-faced by the audience at the miners’ benefit show in 1984 (Tonight the Music Seems So Loud by Sathnam Sanghera review – a heartbreaking portrait of George Michael, 2 June) must have been at a different event to the one I attended, where the audience in front of me went wild for the band. The blinding white outfits and the energy put into Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go have stuck with me to this day, and made Arthur Scargill’s oratory seem pedestrian – and it ain’t often you can say that. James Abbott, Tunbridge Wells, Kent

I am somewhat surprised that men have no need for swimwear to flatter tummies, that are underwired, are size-inclusive, best for bigger moobs or best for swimming. (The 64 best bikinis, swimsuits and men’s trunks for summer 2026, 7 June). Jane Nellist, Chesterfield, Derbyshire

Might I suggest that you refer to Stephen Yaxley-Lennon as “Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, whose preferred nouns are Tommy Robinson”? Terence Doohan, Cork, Ireland

Alternative number bases can be fun (Letters, 11 June). Nowadays I give my age as 21. After the looks of disbelief, I add “in base 37”. Pete Bibby, Sheffield

As a tribute to David Hockney, who died this week, we should all try to do what he suggested: “Put your phone down. Look with both eyes.” John Kirkwood, Sheffield
