Taylor Swift fans 'sickened' after ICE contractor attends wedding
Taylor Swift fans sickened by ICE contractor at wedding

Fans of Taylor Swift have expressed shock and dismay after learning that Steven J. Demetriou, executive chair of Amentum Services—the sole contractor for ICE's Camp East Montana detention center—attended the singer's wedding to Travis Kelce. The star-studded ceremony took place at Madison Square Garden in New York, featuring celebrity guests including Hugh Grant, Bradley Cooper, Graham Norton, and Cara Delevingne.

Backlash Over Guest List

Social media users quickly condemned the inclusion of Demetriou, with many voicing their disappointment on Reddit. User Captain_Cupcake03 called the wedding 'absolutely grotesque and out of touch,' while Relevant-Peach3997 wrote, 'Travis and Taylor are responsible for their guests. They are both sh*t for inviting many horrible people.' Another commenter, hellawhitegirl, stated, 'You are the company you keep,' and Round_Patience3029 questioned, 'Taylor is a closet republican now?' User breyness described it as 'sickening,' adding, 'So you have a space with republicans and don’t use it to speak out on their ways but to invite them to your wedding? Worst part, she’s untouchable.'

Demetriou's Ties to Kelce

Demetriou attended with his wife and son, Ohio Republican Representative Steven J. Demetriou Jr., who described the wedding as 'epic, great and life-changing.' The elder Demetriou has personal ties to Kelce, as the adoptive father of Kelce's close childhood friend, basketball player Reggie King. His company, Amentum Services, took over operation of Camp East Montana in March 2025 after Homeland Security ended a $1.3 billion contract with Acquisition Logistics LLC.

Camp East Montana Controversies

Since opening in August 2025, Camp East Montana—the largest facility of its kind—has faced controversy over detainee treatment, financial losses, and alleged destruction of evidence in a detainee death investigation. At least three people have died in custody, including Geraldo Lunas Campos, whose death was ruled homicide by the El Paso County Medical Examiner’s Office. On June 9, the Government Accountability Office reported that 'the contractor did not provide use of force and death reports to ICE, as required. In addition, evidence associated with the incident was missing or destroyed.' The report also highlighted negligence in healthcare and sanitation after a measles outbreak spread to the nearby community, and noted that ICE had not inspected the center before it opened, leaving it without perimeter security cameras or space for family and attorney visits.

ICE's Response

In April, ICE terminated its contract with Acquisition Logistics and transferred operations to Amentum Services through September. An ICE spokesperson told El Paso Matters: 'This new contractor will allow Camp East Montana to continue abiding by the highest detention standards with the ability to provide more medical care on-site. This contract also allows more on-site staff and a precise quality assurance surveillance plan. ICE will have even more oversight of the contractors at this facility. Far from closing, Camp East Montana is upgrading.'

Other Controversial Guests

Demetriou was not the only guest to raise eyebrows. Brad Pitt also attended, facing backlash over allegations of a rift with his family. His eldest son, Maddox Jolie-Pitt, recently filed to drop his father's surname, becoming the fourth of Pitt's children with Angelina Jolie to do so. Reports of a family feud follow allegations that Pitt argued with Maddox during a 2016 flight, putting his hands on the then-15-year-old. Pitt has denied the allegations, and the FBI cleared him of wrongdoing.

Additionally, actress Lena Dunham reportedly caused shock with a speech describing football as 'just straight guys reenacting gay porn,' according to the Daily Mail. Metro has contacted Taylor Swift’s representatives for comment.
