A man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Nahom Medhanie, a 26-year-old described by his family as a man who would 'light up the room'. The incident occurred on Chalton Street in Camden at approximately 11pm on Saturday, March 28.
Charges and Arrests
Hicham Medjebour, 27, of Hazelbury Way, Camden, was arrested on Tuesday, May 12, and charged the following day with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and perverting the course of justice. He is scheduled to appear at Barkingside Magistrates' Court on Thursday, May 14.
The charges follow a series of early morning raids on Tuesday, May 12, conducted by Metropolitan Police officers across seven properties in Camden, Islington, Enfield, Brentford, and Brent. Three other men, aged 32, 30, and 27, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder but have since been released on bail pending further investigation.
Details of the Shooting
According to police, Nahom Medhanie was sitting in a white Nissan Juke when he was shot multiple times. The suspect is believed to have arrived and fled the scene on a bicycle.
Family Tribute
In a statement released through the police, Nahom's family paid tribute to him: 'Nahom was more than a son and a brother to us and since his passing it has been the hardest days of our lives. He was funny, honest and would just light up the room with his presence and that’s what we loved most about him.' The family has requested privacy during this difficult time.
