The Metropolitan Police have named the teenager who was fatally stabbed in Battersea early on Saturday, June 20, as 17-year-old Jamal Coombes. The attack occurred on Glycena Road, a residential street in South West London, shortly after 4am.
Three teenagers arrested
Police have arrested three individuals on suspicion of murder: a 15-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl on Saturday, followed by a 14-year-old boy on Sunday. Due to their ages, none can be named. All three remain in police custody as investigations continue.
Jamal's next of kin are receiving specialist support from trained officers. Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, leading the investigation, stated: “Our thoughts remain firmly with Jamal’s loved ones following his tragic death.”
Police appeal for witnesses
Authorities believe an altercation may have occurred nearby shortly before the stabbing. DCI Howie appealed to the public: “We believe that there was an altercation prior to the assault, so if you were in the Lavender Hill area between 03:30 hrs and 05:00hrs, specifically Glycena Road, Acanthus Road or Pountney Road, and witnessed a group of men running, please come forward.”
Police are urging anyone with information, CCTV, doorbell, or mobile phone footage to contact them on 101 quoting CAD 1567/20JUN26. Information can also be shared via the Public Portal or anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
DCI Howie added: “Any information, no matter how minor it may seem, could prove crucial. I would also urge members of the public not to assume that information has already been shared.”
