Law enforcement responded to a shooting on Friday in Midland, Texas, leaving one person dead and nine others hospitalized, according to local authorities. The suspected shooter was reported deceased after a two-hour standoff with police, as confirmed by the city's mayor.

The shooting occurred shortly after 8 a.m. local time in an industrial area of Midland, approximately 300 miles west of Fort Worth and Dallas. Officers rushed to the scene following reports of gunfire. Midland Mayor Lori Blong confirmed the shooting on Friday morning, noting that the situation was evolving and officers were containing it.
Victims and Hospital Response
Victims were taken to Midland Memorial Hospital, where the emergency department was placed under lockdown as a security precaution. The hospital reported that four people were in the operating room and five others were in stable condition.
Andrea Mendias, who works at an auto body shop near the scene, reported hearing at least 40 shots fired. Video captured by Mendias showed officers exiting an armored police vehicle and deploying robots in the area.
Historical Context
Midland, a city of about 140,000 residents in the heart of Texas's oil region, was near the site of a deadly shooting rampage six years ago. In that incident, a gunman who had been fired from his oil services job killed seven people and wounded two dozen others while driving randomly through the Odessa and Midland areas.
