Teens charged with murder of Radwan Shakur in Chelmsford

The family of a 21-year-old man have said their hearts are truly broken after he was found with stab wounds in a park in Chelmsford last week. Radwan Shakur, from Wembley, London, was fatally injured in Central Park on Friday, June 12. Emergency services were called to reports of a serious assault, but despite paramedics' efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Charges Filed

Essex Police identified the victim as Radwan Shakur. Two teenagers have now been charged with murder, possession with intent to supply cannabis, and possession of a knife in a public place. Romeo Mfinda, 18, of Widford Chase, and a 17-year-old boy from Chelmsford who cannot be named for legal reasons, are due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Monday, June 15.

Investigation Progress

Initially, three teens aged 18, 17, and 14 were arrested from an address in Auckland Close on suspicion of murder. The 18-year-old has been released on bail, and the 14-year-old has been released under investigation. Further enquiries led to the arrest of another 18-year-old man from Widford Chase on Sunday afternoon.

Detective Inspector Lydia George, leading the investigation, said: “This was a shocking incident in a busy public park at a time when many people would have been enjoying the area, and we know it has caused significant concern within the Chelmsford community. Our thoughts remain with Radwan’s family, who we continue to support at this incredibly difficult time.”

Family Tribute

In a statement, Radwan’s family said: “Radwan was a kind soul loved by his family and everyone that knew him. He had a smile that would brighten up a room. He had such hopes and dreams for his future. He was looking forward to going to university and the bright future ahead. Our hearts are truly broken. We will miss him.”
