A suspect has been taken into custody after shots were fired outside Chris Brown's mansion in Los Angeles. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon when law enforcement was called to the street outside the singer's home in Tarzana at around 4 p.m.
Details of the Incident
According to TMZ, a female caller reported that a shooting had just happened, describing the suspect as a Black male, approximately 35 years old, who allegedly fired at her vehicle. Dispatch audio obtained by the outlet indicates authorities were sent to Brown's address. Upon arrival, both parties were questioned. The suspect claimed that an argument broke out when the woman refused to leave the area. He said he fired at her car after she allegedly drove over his foot.
Arrest and Charges
The man was taken into custody and arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism. He is currently being held on a $50,000 (£36,800) bail. It has been confirmed that Chris Brown is not the suspect detained, nor is he thought to have been involved. Brown, 36, is not believed to have been home at the time, although this remains unclear.
The Los Angeles Police Department issued an official statement to Complex, saying: 'Yesterday around 4:11 p.m., LAPD officers from the West Valley division responded to the 19600 block of Citrus Ridge Drive to reports of a shooting that had just occurred.' The suspect is reported to have brandished a 'CO2-style weapon.'
Upcoming Projects
The incident comes ahead of Brown's new album release. His 12th album, titled Brown, is set to drop on May 8. On June 26, he and Usher will embark on their joint R&B Tour across 33 dates, starting in Denver and concluding in Tampa on December 12.
Legal Background
Brown was permitted to return to the US in late 2025 after his own bail conditions were granted in a trial for what prosecutors said was an 'unprovoked' alleged bottle attack at a London nightclub three years ago. He had already been ordered to pay a £5 million security fee, which serves as a financial guarantee to ensure his return to court. The fee may be forfeited if he breaches bail conditions. Brown pleaded not guilty to charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm to Abraham Diaw at the Tape venue, a private members' club in Hanover Square, Mayfair, on February 19, 2023. He also denied having an offensive weapon – a bottle – in a public place, as well as attempting to cause grievous bodily harm.
