Russell Brand Faces Two New Rape and Sexual Assault Charges
Russell Brand charged with two further sexual offences

The Metropolitan Police has confirmed that comedian and actor Russell Brand is now facing two additional serious charges. The 50-year-old from Oxfordshire has been charged with one further count of rape and another count of sexual assault.

Fresh Allegations Bring New Charges

These new charges relate to two more women and are separate from the existing case against Brand. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorised the charges following an investigation by the Met.

Lionel Idan, Chief Crown Prosecutor for the CPS, stated that prosecutors had established sufficient evidence and that pursuing further proceedings was in the public interest. He confirmed the new charges relate to separate reports of non-recent offences in 2009.

Existing Case and Court Date

Brand was already facing five charges from an earlier case. These comprised two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault. Those allegations involve four women and relate to a period between 1999 and 2005.

Brand is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 20 January 2026 in relation to the two new charges. The CPS has issued a strong reminder that criminal proceedings are now active and the defendant has a right to a fair trial.

They emphasised the importance of avoiding any reporting or commentary online that could prejudice the legal process.

Ongoing Investigation and Support

Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi, who is overseeing the Met's investigation, confirmed that the women who have made reports continue to receive support from specially trained officers.

He stated the investigation remains ongoing and urged anyone affected by the case, or with information, to come forward. A dedicated investigative team can be contacted via email.

Support is also available through the independent charity Rape Crisis and its 24/7 Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Line.

Following a joint investigation by The Sunday Times and Channel 4's Dispatches into the allegations last year, Brand vehemently denied any misconduct. He previously told his millions of followers on social media platform X that all his relationships had been consensual and that he wished for the chance to demonstrate his innocence.
