Robert's shock as Kev returns with divorce offer in Emmerdale

Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) is left quaking in his wellies when Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) returns to Emmerdale, but in a surprise twist, the encounter leaves Robert thrilled. Kev, who previously attacked Robert's husband Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) with a sword, is back in the village with a surprising offer: to get the ball rolling on their divorce. This means Robert can finally marry Aaron, making Robron official.

Kev's turbulent history with Robert

Kev first arrived in Emmerdale as Robert's prison hubby, a volatile cocktail of rage and unresolved childhood trauma. He pretended to be terminally ill to win Robert back, but when Robert's heart proved to be with Aaron, Kev responded with a deadly sword attack. He briefly returned at Christmas, kidnapped by Robert's serial killer brother John Sugden, and escaped after kneeing Robert in the unmentionables.

Kev's new reasons for returning

This time, Kev is back for two reasons: to launch his bespoke cake and coffee pop-up 'A Slice Of Kev-en', and to connect with his long-lost son, Lewis Barton (Bradley Riches). Kev revealed to a clueless Liam in the cafe that he had a one-night stand with Emma, who put the baby up for adoption. Only Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) knows the full truth, and she gave Kev an ultimatum: tell Lewis the truth or leave forever. Kev agreed to leave, believing Lewis deserved better than a criminal dad.

Claudette's encouragement changes Kev's mind

Kev is taken in by his old friend Claudette Anderson (Flo Wilson) and her son Claude. He reveals his sadness that Lewis wants nothing to do with him. Claudette strongly buoys him up, insisting he is a good man who deserves his family and should continue to pursue a relationship with Lewis. Her words ring in his ears as he seeks out Robert.

Robert's elation at the divorce offer

When Kev suggests they finalise their divorce, Robert is overjoyed. This clears the way for Robron's wedding. However, tensions rise in the cafe when Nicola catches Kev filling a bucket to clean his trailer in the cafe toilets. Nicola is absolutely determined to get Kev out of the village. Will she drive Kev away before Robert can get him to sign those all-important papers?
