Adina Mihai, 31, and Madalin Dumitru, 30, have admitted the manslaughter of an 80-year-old man from Gloucestershire and a 37-year-old from Oxfordshire after targeting men seeking sexual services. The pair, formerly from Ilford in Essex, operated between August 2024 and July 2025, using a scheme where Mihai posed as a sex worker to meet victims at their homes and secretly administered the sedative GBL (gamma-butyrolactone), which converts into GHB in the body.
Details of the crimes
Malcolm King, 80, from a village near Cirencester, Gloucestershire, was found dead at his home on 21 August 2024. Gary Mouat, 37, was found dead at his property in Banbury, Oxfordshire, on 13 July 2025. Postmortem examinations revealed that Mihai had poisoned Mouat by adding GBL to an alcoholic drink. Initially, King's death was deemed non-suspicious due to a pre-existing health condition, but further toxicology tests confirmed GBL poisoning.
Surviving victims and police investigation
Thames Valley police also discovered two surviving victims from the south of England, who cannot be named for legal reasons, whom Mihai and Dumitru drugged and stole from. The pair took financial deposits from victims before the meetings. Police issued a bulletin to all forces to check for other unexplained deaths, but no further cases have been linked.
Court proceedings and statements
On Wednesday, the pair appeared via video link at Oxford Crown Court, pleading guilty to two counts of manslaughter and two counts each of administering poison. Det Insp Adam Stacey of Gloucestershire police said: “Adina Mihai and Madalin Dumitru targeted men who were seeking sexual services and covertly drugged to render them unconscious before stealing from them. Tragically for Mr King, their callous and calculated actions had fatal consequences.” Det Insp Michael Roddy of Thames Valley police added: “For Gary Mouat, these actions had fatal consequences so I am pleased to have got answers for his family.” The pair have been remanded in custody and are due to be sentenced later, with Mrs Justice Brunner indicating they will receive long jail terms.
