Exhausted NYPD officers forced to work 30-hour shifts in 100-degree Fahrenheit heat during Taylor Swift's wedding to Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden have voiced their frustration. The wedding, held on July 3, 2026, coincided with America's 250th anniversary celebrations and the FIFA World Cup, stretching police resources to the limit.
Officers describe grueling conditions
An anonymous officer told the US Sun: 'It's the hottest day of the year, and everyone's on overtime with no breaks in the sun. We're just looking for shade.' The officer added that workers had to buy their own drinks, saying, 'You'd think they'd hand out beverages to all the workers just because it's so hot.' Temperatures reached 38 degrees Celsius (100 degrees Fahrenheit).
Due to the overlapping events, some officers worked over 24 to 30 hours consecutively. 'It's a huge inconvenience, not only for us, but for everyone here. You can't get into the Garden, you can't use the entrances or the streets,' the officer said.
Celebrity guest list and wedding details
The wedding drew A-listers including Ed Sheeran, Dakota Johnson, Gigi Hadid, Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Selena Gomez, Graham Norton, and Gregg James. Adam Sandler officiated, and the venue's exterior declared 'JUST&T MARRIED!'
Despite the complaints, Swift and Kelce donated $26 million to various US charities before the wedding. The NY Police and Fire Widows' & Children's Benefit Fund (Answer the Call) received $2 million, which the anonymous officer praised. Reports also indicate Swift is contributing to workers' overtime pay.
Reception highlights and notable absences
Insiders revealed Lena Dunham's speech caused shock, with a remark that 'American football is just straight guys reenacting gay porn,' dividing NFL teammates in attendance. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were absent, reportedly due to distance following Lively's legal drama with Justin Baldoni.
Metro has reached out to Swift's representatives for comment.
