Man Questioned in Mohamed al Fayed Sex Abuse Probe

The Metropolitan Police have conducted an interview under caution with a man in his 60s as part of their ongoing investigation into serious sexual abuse allegations against the late former Harrods owner Mohamed al Fayed. This development comes after a significant number of individuals have come forward with reports of abuse.

Investigation Details and Suspect Interviews

According to official statements from the Metropolitan Police, the suspect was questioned this month following the emergence of 154 people who have reported allegations of sexual abuse against Al Fayed. The investigation represents one of the Met's largest and most complex cases, focusing on individuals who may have facilitated or enabled offending by the deceased businessman.

The man in his 60s represents the fourth individual to be interviewed under caution in connection with this case. Previously, between February 25th and March 5th, three women in their 40s, 50s, and 60s were also questioned under caution as part of the same investigation.

Nature of Allegations and Police Approach

All four individuals have been questioned on suspicion of multiple serious offenses including aiding and abetting rape and sexual assault, assisting the commission of sexual offenses, and human trafficking for sexual exploitation. The Metropolitan Police have emphasized that no arrests have been made at this stage, and the investigation remains active and ongoing.

Met Commander Angela Craggs stated: "While Al Fayed is no longer alive to face prosecution, we have always been determined to bring anyone who is suspected to have played a part in his offending to justice." She further encouraged anyone with relevant information to come forward, whether directly affected by Al Fayed's actions or with concerns about others who may have been involved.

Scope and Timeline of the Investigation

The police investigation has revealed that the alleged offenses span several decades, with reports indicating misconduct occurring between 1977 and 2014. Officers have been working diligently over the past 18 months to gather detailed accounts from victims and witnesses, building what they describe as a comprehensive picture of the alleged offending.

The Metropolitan Police previously announced they were investigating individuals surrounding Al Fayed who could have enabled him to carry out more than 400 sexual misconduct crimes. This extensive investigation continues to develop as more information comes to light.

Mohamed al Fayed, who died at age 94 in August 2023, was a prominent figure in British business and society, best known for his ownership of the Harrods department store from 1985 to 2010. The current police investigation represents a significant development in addressing allegations that have emerged following his death.
