Man charged with murder of 'joyful' dad after pub assault

Liam Burgess, 36, has been charged with the murder of Stuart Tickner, a 50-year-old father described as 'bubbly and joyful', following an assault outside a pub in Sidcup, South London. The attack occurred around 1am on Monday, 25 May, on Station Road. Tickner was found unconscious and taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service paramedics, but died from his injuries five days later on Saturday, 30 May.

Charges and court appearance

Burgess, of Dovedale Close, Harefield, was charged on Sunday, 21 June, with murder and possession of a weapon in a public place. He appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 22 June, and has been remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, 24 June. Tickner's next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers.

Tribute from daughter

Tickner's daughter, Megan Tickner, paid tribute to her father on Facebook, saying: 'It is with a heavy heart and immense sadness that I am having to share that we lost my Dad on Saturday May 30. A week ago, he was unfortunately a victim of a serious assault which left him with head injuries which were so severe he could not recover from them. He lit up any room he walked into and was a bubbly, joyful soul. I will cherish the memories of us going to concerts together and singing karaoke. I’ll love and miss you always Dad.'
