Essa Suleiman, 45, has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing incident in Golders Green, north London, that left two Jewish men injured. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that Suleiman faces two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a bladed article in a public place.
Details of the Incident
Police were called to Highfield Avenue just after 11am on Wednesday after reports that two men had been stabbed. The victims, identified locally as Shloime Rand, 34, and Moshe Shine, 76, were taken to hospital for treatment. Shloime Rand has since been discharged and is recovering at home after receiving stitches, according to the Jewish Community Council. Moshe Shine remains in hospital and is in a stable condition.
Legal Proceedings
Suleiman appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday. Commander Helen Flanagan, head of counter-terrorism policing for London, urged the public to avoid speculation to ensure a fair trial. She stated, “Our thoughts remain with the victims involved and specialist officers continue to provide them with support as their recovery continues. We are determined to get justice for the victims.”
The investigation is ongoing, and police have not disclosed a possible motive for the attack. The incident has sparked concern in the local community, but authorities have reassured the public that all necessary measures are being taken.
