Dharminder Singh, the former partner of Jana Armstrong, appeared via videolink at Toowoomba magistrates court on Monday, charged with her murder, arson, and breach of a bail condition. The charges follow the discovery of Armstrong's body near Toowoomba.
Family's tribute to a devoted mother
Outside the court, Armstrong's sister, Faith Isaacs, spoke to reporters, describing her sister as someone who 'always wanted to be a mum' and who cherished every moment with her young son. 'She loved every day, every minute [of] spending time with her son. She was never away from him,' Isaacs said.
Domestic violence context
The murder charge is classified as a domestic violence offence, highlighting the ongoing issue of intimate partner violence in Queensland. According to the Queensland government, domestic violence remains a serious concern, with thousands of reported incidents each year.
Singh was already subject to a bail condition at the time of the alleged murder, which he is accused of breaching. The court proceedings are ongoing, and Singh has not yet entered a plea.
