Anwar Shinwari, 28, the delivery driver killed in a crash on the A12 in Chadwell Heath, has been named by police as more than 550 people have donated to a fundraiser supporting his family. The collision occurred on July 19 at 9.20pm on the Whalebone Lane section of the A12, involving a car and Mr Shinwari on his motorbike. He died at the scene, and his next-of-kin continue to be assisted by specialist officers.
Emergency Response and Investigation
Met Police officers, the London Ambulance Service, London’s Air Ambulance, and the London Fire Brigade attended the scene. The driver of the car fled on foot, prompting an investigation by the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit. On July 25, a 45-year-old man was arrested.
Charges Filed
Lee Culleton, 45, of Rattwick Drive, Canvey Island, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without insurance, driving whilst disqualified, and fraudulent use of a registration mark. He appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court on July 27 and was remanded into custody. He will next appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on August 25.
Community Support
Friends of Mr Shinwari set up a GoFundMe to cover funeral costs. The description states: “His family is going through an incredibly tough time. Every donation can help support them with the costs of transporting his body to Afghanistan and covering funeral expenses.” Over 550 donors have contributed, reflecting widespread community support.
