A man from Tottenham has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for a violent and unprovoked robbery in which he repeatedly stabbed a complete stranger. Amar Bostan, 27, of Ruskin Road, inflicted multiple wounds on the victim's leg during the attack on July 24 last year.
Attack on Hardinge Street
The incident occurred at around 10.45pm on Hardinge Street, a residential road in Ashford, Kent. Multiple witnesses dialled 999 as the terrifying altercation unfolded. Kent Police officers arrived at the scene, where witnesses reported that Bostan had kicked and held down the victim while brandishing a knife between 3 and 6 inches long.
Victim robbed and hospitalised
Patrols and paramedics located the injured man nearby and rushed him to hospital. He had been robbed of his phone, car keys, and a small amount of cash.
Police pursuit on M20
Armed police pursued an Audi carrying Bostan as it fled in the direction of Canterbury, quickly bringing the car to a stop on the M20. Bostan, who was in the front passenger seat, was arrested and remanded in custody. He was later charged with robbery and possession of a bladed article. Initially pleading not guilty, he changed his plea on the first day of his trial.
Sentence at Canterbury Crown Court
At a hearing at Canterbury Crown Court on May 1, a judge sentenced Bostan to 10 years behind bars. Detective Constable Tony Gregory said: 'This was a violent and unprovoked attack which could easily have resulted in the loss of life and harm to members of the public at the scene. I am pleased that a dangerous individual like Bostan has received a substantial custodial sentence, preventing him from causing further harm to the community.'
