Tom Francis Auditions for James Bond Role

James Bond fans are both shaken and stirred after reports emerged that a relatively unknown British actor, 26-year-old Tom Francis, has auditioned for the iconic role of 007. The search for the next Bond has been ongoing since Daniel Craig vacated the role in 2019, with the upcoming film to be directed by Denis Villeneuve for Amazon. While names like Jacob Elordi, Harris Dickinson, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson have been rumored, no decision has been made. Now, Francis has reportedly joined the race, sending fans into a frenzy.

Who Is Tom Francis?

Francis is best known for his stage work, having starred opposite Nicole Scherzinger in Jamie Lloyd's production of Sunset Boulevard on the West End. He also appeared in six episodes of Netflix's You as Clayton Angevine. His film debut came in last year's Jay Kelly, directed by Noah Baumbach and starring George Clooney. He is also set to appear in the upcoming sports drama The Mosquito Bowl, directed by Peter Berg and starring Nicholas Galitzine and Bill Skarsgård.

Fan Reactions

Reaction to the news has been mixed. Some fans expressed concerns about his age. X user Erik Lamoureux commented, 'He's got the look for sure, but he's too young.' Another user, SoArchaic, said, 'We need a Bond who looks like he's experienced some life to be believable.' Others were more open, with TheArchaicMan stating, 'It needs to be a relatively unknown Brit.' Vickster51, familiar with Francis's work, described him as a 'superb actor' with 'an incredibly striking presence/charisma.'

Casting Process

A source close to Variety revealed that Francis auditioned in a process overseen by Game of Thrones casting director Nina Gold. Representatives for Francis and Amazon MGM did not comment when approached. This news comes a month after reports that Amazon was considering 22-year-old Louis Partridge for the role. Partridge joked about impressing writer Steven Knight, saying, 'Maybe I could be at the bar, swilling a martini, saying nothing.'

Younger Bond for Reboot

Producers are reportedly seeking a younger actor for the reboot, even before Amazon MGM Studio purchased creative control from Eon. A younger Bond could increase the number of films and potential tie-ins and spin-offs. However, fans should not expect the next film soon, with a potential seven-year gap. A source told The Sun, 'Bond won't be back until 2028. The production mindset's gone from “Let's hurry this through” to “Make sure we get this right.”'

Odds and Favorites

Ladbrokes odds currently favor Callum Turner at 6/5, followed by Harris Dickinson at 3/1, Jacob Elordi at 5/1, and Jack O'Connell at 8/1. Aaron Taylor-Johnson is at 9/1, Theo James at 12/1, and Henry Ashton and Henry Cavill both at 16/1. Ladbrokes spokesperson Alex Apati said, 'The race to replace Daniel Craig is more wide-open than ever, and while Callum Turner continues to lead the way, the odds suggest an unknown name could well get the gig.'
