A second Hounslow Labour councillor has been caught parking in a disabled bay without displaying a blue badge, just days after a colleague was forced to resign over an identical offence.
Another Parking Scandal Emerges
The vehicle, understood to belong to Hounslow Labour Councillor and former Deputy Mayor Hina Mir, was photographed occupying a clearly marked disabled parking space at Hounslow House on Tuesday, November 25. The incident occurred while a full council meeting was taking place inside the civic centre.
Councillor Mir, who serves as Chair of the Housing and Environment Scrutiny Panel and works as a solicitor, did not respond to requests for comment. In response to the incident, Hounslow Labour told the Local Democracy Reporting Service that 'The Labour Group is currently investigating the matter.'
Pattern of Behaviour
This latest controversy comes merely days after her colleague, Councillor Farhaan Rehman, was compelled to resign his position as Chair of the Licensing Panel after revelations he had parked a Lamborghini in disabled bays on two separate occasions. Despite his resignation, Rehman remains a Labour councillor and is still listed as a candidate for the 2026 elections.
The disabled parking bays at Hounslow House are distinctly marked with yellow paint, contrasting with the white paint used for standard parking spaces. While the car park is reserved for council staff and politicians rather than the general public, the principle remains the same.
Double Standards Exposed
The incidents have sparked significant criticism from opposition councillors and residents who perceive a clear double standard. Councillor Jack Emsley, Conservative Councillor for Chiswick Homefields, stated: 'Labour councillors are taking residents for fools. It's clear that a sense of entitlement runs rife through the Hounslow Labour Party.'
This perception is heightened by the council's strict enforcement of rules against residents. The controversy is particularly acute for Loretta Alvarez, 26, who continues to face a £1,000 fine from the council for 'fly-tipping' an envelope next to overflowing communal bins.
Reacting to the latest councillor parking incident, Alvarez said: 'I have no words. It annoys me because it's like these are the people who should set an example. They set rules they want us to follow... but they act like they are above the rules.'
Meanwhile, if a member of the public were caught parking in a disabled bay without a blue badge elsewhere in the borough, they would face a fixed penalty notice of £160.
