Trump claims Starmer will resign as UK PM over immigration and energy failures
Trump: Starmer to resign over immigration, energy failures

Donald Trump has asserted that Keir Starmer will step down as Prime Minister in his most recent social media outburst, claiming the UK leader has "failed badly" on immigration and energy. The US President, posting on Truth Social, wrote: "Keir Starmer will resign as Prime Minister of The United Kingdom. He failed badly on two very important subjects- IMMIGRATION AND ENERGY (OPEN NORTH SEA OIL!). I wish him well!"

Speculation around Starmer's future intensifies

This follows speculation surrounding Starmer's potential resignation, which intensified after challenger Andy Burnham secured the MP seat in Makerfield earlier this week. However, there has been no official confirmation that Starmer intends to stand down. Burnham is scheduled to return to Westminster on Monday (June 22) to be sworn in as the new MP for Makerfield. Sources suggest his team expects Starmer to outline his intentions in the coming days but would accept a timeline that maintained him in No 10 until September.

Cabinet minister comments on Starmer's stance

Starmer is said to be considering the "political realities" he now confronts, a Cabinet minister indicated while declining to dismiss the prospect of the Prime Minister resigning. Business Secretary Peter Kyle informed broadcasters on Sunday he had not communicated with the Prime Minister since Friday, when he held a "frank conversation" with him. When questioned about reports suggesting Starmer is considering announcing his resignation as early as next week, he told Sky News' Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips: "I have nothing to believe that they are true. I'm seeing a lot of speculation out there. The only thing I can say with fact is that the Prime Minister is hard at work, as he is every day. He is one of the most hardworking people I've ever come across, and today, as in every other day I've ever known Keir, he is out there working hard. At the same time he is also trying to create the space where he can think and reflect on the political realities and challenges, and the opportunities, that lie before us."

Starmer's Father's Day message

Meanwhile, Starmer spent this Sunday at Chequers, where he took to social media to mark Father's Day with a heartfelt message. He wrote on X: "Being a dad is my greatest joy. Today, I'm thinking about my dad, and the father I am to my children because of him. Happy Father's Day."
