Man Arrested Over Explosives Claim in South London

A major South London high street was cordoned off after a man claimed to have explosives. Specialist police officers negotiated with the man, aged in his 40s, on Plumstead High Street at around 11:20 AM on Wednesday, April 22. The man was inside a residential property and stated that he was in possession of explosives.

Police Response and Arrest

Police entered the home at 2 PM and arrested the man on suspicion of possession of explosives. He was taken to a police station, where he remains in custody. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the incident is not being treated as terror-related.

Emergency Services Involvement

The London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service also attended the scene. A Met Police spokesperson said: “On Wednesday, April 22, at 11.20am, police were called following concern for the welfare of a man in Plumstead High Street. Specialist officers attended the scene and engaged with a man, in his 40s, who was inside a residential property and claimed to be in possession of explosives. The London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service also attended the incident. At around 2pm, officers entered the property and arrested the man on suspicion of possession of explosives. He has been taken into custody, where he remains. The incident is not being treated as terror-related.”
