Tesco Clubcard Holders Warned: £17M in Vouchers Expire May 31
Tesco Clubcard: £17M Vouchers Expire May 31

Tesco Clubcard holders are being urged to act before £17 million in loyalty vouchers expire at midnight on May 31. The supermarket chain has warned that millions of customers could lose their hard-earned rewards if they fail to redeem them in time.

How the Expiry Works

Clubcard vouchers are issued every three months in February, May, August, and November. They are valid for two years, meaning those issued in May 2024 will become void at the end of May 2026. Once expired, they cannot be redeemed or reissued, so shoppers must use them before the deadline.

Where to Use Vouchers

Vouchers can be used in-store or online at Tesco for groceries, fuel, or Tesco Mobile purchases. Every 150 points equals £1.50 off your shop. Alternatively, customers can triple their value by exchanging vouchers with over 100 Reward Partners, including PizzaExpress, ASK Italian, and the newly added Las Iguanas. Other partners include cinemas, gyms, and high street chains, most offering double the points value.

Tesco has emailed reminders to customers, urging them to check the Tesco Grocery and Clubcard app for expiring vouchers or reward codes.

How Clubcard Points Work

Members earn one point for every £1 spent in Tesco stores, online, or with Points Partners like Evri and Halfords. Once you have at least 150 points, you can request a voucher online or via the app. Points can be converted into vouchers for Tesco shopping, spent at Reward Partners, or donated to charity.

Extending Vouchers: A Risky Trick

Money Saving Expert has highlighted a potential way to extend voucher expiry dates, though it is technically prohibited. By using a small portion of a voucher (e.g., 50p from a £5 voucher) on the Tesco Clubcard Rewards website for a partner purchase or charity donation, the remaining balance is often returned as a new voucher with a fresh two-year expiry. This must be done by 11:59 pm on May 31.

However, Tesco’s terms and conditions state that orders can be refused if the system is abused, including redeeming vouchers solely to extend their life. Money Saving Expert tested the trick and confirmed it worked, but warned customers act at their own risk. The process must be repeated for each individual voucher, making it impractical for many small-value vouchers.

With millions at stake, shoppers are advised to check their accounts now and redeem or spend their vouchers before the May 31 deadline.
