A 17-year-old boy from London has died after he vanished while snorkelling on a school trip to Lake Malawi, police have confirmed.

Eugene Enoch Kwon, from Hampton in London, was snorkelling with schoolmates on a camping trip on Tuesday in Monkey Bay, Lake Malawi. He disappeared underwater, prompting an immediate search operation.
Supt Patrick Mussa, of the Malawi Police Service's Eastern Region Police Headquarters, said divers located him underwater after an extensive search. He was rushed to hospital but died. The cause of death was suffocation due to drowning, police said.
School and family response
A spokesperson for Hampton School, a private boys' school in Richmond upon Thames, confirmed the student's death. They said: 'Our thoughts, love and deepest sympathies are with the pupil's family and loved ones at this unimaginably difficult time. At present, our focus is supporting the pupil's family and everyone affected within our school community.'
Police in the Eastern Region have expressed their condolences to the bereaved family, while investigations into the incident continue.
