Police in Madison, Wisconsin are conducting an urgent manhunt for Morgan Geyser, one of the women convicted in the notorious Slender Man stabbing case, after she removed her electronic monitoring tag and escaped custody.
The Escape and Current Search
Geyser was last seen in the Kroncke Drive area of Madison at approximately 8pm on November 23, 2025. Authorities confirmed she was with an adult acquaintance at the time of her disappearance. The Madison Police Department was officially notified of her escape this morning, and her current whereabouts remain unknown.
This development comes after a judge ruled in January that Geyser had maximised her treatment options at the Wisconsin mental health facility where she was being held and could be transferred to a group home. The escape represents a significant breach in her supervised release conditions.
Background of the Slender Man Case
Geyser and her friend, Anissa Weier, were convicted for the 2014 attempted murder of their classmate, Payton Leutner. The attack was planned to please Slender Man - a fictional online character described as a featureless, white-faced figure who hides in woods and stalks children.
The three girls had been at a sleepover together when Geyser and Weier lured Leutner to a park under the pretence of playing hide-and-seek. Weier instructed Leutner to lie down and cover herself with leaves, at which point Geyser stabbed her 19 times with a kitchen knife.
The vicious attack left Leutner with life-threatening injuries, including:
- Stab wounds to her chest, arms and legs
- One wound that cut through her diaphragm
- Another that missed her heart by less than a millimeter
Leutner was left bleeding in the woods and required emergency surgery lasting six hours to save her life.
Legal Proceedings and Sentencing
During court proceedings, Geyser was described as a fragile person with a long history of delusions that made her a risk to others. Before her sentencing, she briefly addressed the court, breaking down in tears and apologising to her victim.
I just want to let Bella (Leutner) and her family know that I'm sorry and I hope she's doing well, Geyser told the court.
Originally committed to a mental hospital for 40 years, Geyser's recent transfer to less restrictive conditions preceded her escape. Her accomplice, Anissa Weier, was sentenced to up to 25 years in a mental institution.
Madison police are urging anyone with information about Geyser's whereabouts to call 911 immediately and not to approach her.
