Casualty spoilers follow for Saturday's (June 13) episode that is now available to view on BBC iPlayer. The episode in question will air on BBC One at 8:35pm.
Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) was left upset to learn that soldier Rory Dickson (Gwïon Morris Jones) had 'taken a turn for the worse' and thus asked Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) to hold the fort in his absence.
Rory, as viewers know, is a young soldier who Flynn suspected was being abused and hazed at his barracks by the sinister Colonel Bard (Mark Womack). Holby ED's Clinical Lead first encountered Rory when a fellow soldier was rushed to hospital after being injured in an explosion at Wyvern Hill Estate, which is built on top of a toxic waste dump.
Flynn suspected that bruising on the young soldier's back was historic and when he questioned Rory on such a thing, Bard intervened. Rory subsequently ended up in the ED when a military training exercise went awry and, upon examination, Flynn speculated that he too was being abused by Bard. Bard ensured Rory wasn't left alone with Flynn long enough to reveal the ordeal, checking the young private out of the hospital. But last week, Rory ended back up in the hospital, having injured himself.
Flynn offered to clean up his wounds and offered him support, prompting Rory to open up about the hazing and abuse he's suffered at Bard's hands but when Flynn was called away to tend to a patient, Rory vanished. He was subsequently brought into the ED, having been in a serious accident. Flynn, who was out on the streets searching for the young soldier, raced back to Holby when he heard about Rory being admitted and – despite it being touch and go – he successfully resuscitated the lad, using a procedure known as a bilateral thoracostomy.
Stevie later informed Flynn that, while Rory will be on the intubator and ventilator for a while yet, he was stable. However, this Saturday's offering of the BBC medical drama saw Flynn swoop into action when he was informed that Rory had taken a turn, which meant he had to be rushed into theatre. He leaned on Stevie, who he shared a moment with last week, for support, asking her to keep an eye on things while he was out of action.
Rory proved to be a fighter once more, as subsequent scenes confirmed that he'd pulled through – and this time not only is he stable but he's 'out of the woods'.
Stevie, however, is in serious trouble after a complaint was made against her by Dylan Keogh (William Beck) – and as Clinical Lead it was Flynn that was tasked with telling her all about it.
Casualty airs Saturday at 8:35pm on BBC One or stream from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
