A woman in her eighties has died following a serious assault at a residential property in Wiltshire on Christmas Day, leading to a murder investigation.

Christmas Morning Tragedy in Devizes

Emergency services were called to an address on Keepers Road in the town of Devizes at approximately 8.10am on Wednesday, December 25, 2025. Police officers and paramedics attended the scene, but the elderly victim was pronounced dead at the flat.

Wiltshire Police swiftly arrested a 63-year-old woman in connection with the death. The force confirmed the suspect is known to the victim and was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police Launch Major Investigation

Detective Inspector Alan Smith, from the force's major crime investigation team, described the event as a "tragic incident". He stated: "We have arrested a woman who is known to the victim and I can confirm we are not looking for anyone else in connection with it."

An urgent investigation has been launched, which will include house-to-house enquiries. A police cordon has been established at the address and is expected to remain in place for the rest of Christmas Day and into Boxing Day.
