21-Year-Old Man Arrested on Suspicion of Attempted Murder Following West Hampstead Stabbing
Detectives investigating a serious stabbing incident in West Hampstead have made a significant breakthrough, arresting a 21-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder. The suspect was taken into police custody yesterday, January 30, and remains there as enquiries continue.
Victim in Critical Condition with Life-Threatening Injuries
The arrest comes just two days after a violent attack that left a man in his twenties fighting for his life. Emergency services were called to Alvanley Gardens, a residential street near Finchley Road and Frognal station, shortly after 4.30pm on Thursday, January 29.
Upon arrival, crews discovered the victim with severe injuries to his neck and leg. He was immediately transported to hospital, where medical professionals assessed his condition as life-threatening. The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that the man remains in a critical condition.
Major Emergency Response and Scene Investigation
The incident prompted a substantial emergency response, with officers from the Metropolitan Police, London Ambulance Service paramedics, and London's Air Ambulance helicopter all attending the scene. A police cordon was established near the Cumberland Lawn Tennis Club, sealing off the length of Alvanley Gardens for several hours while forensic investigators secured the area.
Photographs from the scene showed multiple police vehicles and officers guarding the blue-and-white tape that marked the extensive crime scene perimeter.
Police and Ambulance Service Statements
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police provided details of the initial response: "At around 16:30hrs on Thursday, 29 January police responded to reports of a stabbing on Alvanley Gardens, Camden. Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance service attended the scene and found a man in his 20s with injuries to his neck and leg.
