A 22-year-old Hooters model has been identified as the second victim of a fiery supercar crash in California. Alexis 'Lexi' Kramer died alongside car influencer James Wehr, 27, when the McLaren they were travelling in burst into flames after hitting a tree.
Kramer had been chatting with Wehr on Instagram for about a month before they met for their first date. They had breakfast together, and Kramer's sister, Gracie Kramer, told the New York Post: 'She loved the car community, so it's such a tragedy that that's what ended her.'
Gracie added: 'As you can imagine, this was very shocking and hard. She was kind and funny and charismatic and I've had so many people reach out and share their wonderful experiences with Lexi.'
Date in California
According to the family, Wehr flew Kramer out to California from Florida during their early relationship. They dined at the luxury Japanese-Peruvian restaurant Nobu and then went for cocktails at the Pendry Hotel.
Police reported that shortly after midnight, the McLaren was waiting at a red light near Culver Drive. When the light changed, the supercar accelerated at high speed, the driver clipped a kerb, and the vehicle ploughed into a tree at around 12:20am. The car broke apart and burst into flames, killing both occupants instantly.
Tributes from family and wife
In an Instagram tribute, Gracie called her sister 'my other half'. She wrote: 'Lexi was so much more than just my best friend, she was all of my love, my heart, my attitude, and my humour wrapped into a smaller, more chaotic, less filtered, package.'
Wehr was a prominent car influencer and co-founder of South OC Cars and Coffee, a weekly meet-up for petrolheads. He had over 50,000 followers on Instagram, where he often posted images of himself with the all-black McLaren he was killed in.
Wehr's wife Emma shared wedding day photos of the couple, writing in an emotional Instagram tribute: 'James, I never thought the day would come that I'd have to say such a final goodbye.' She added: 'Getting the opportunity to love you will always be the greatest blessing in my life.'
Emma described him as 'smart, kind, funny, loving' and 'genuinely one of the best people I've had the pleasure of knowing.' She concluded: 'Whether its in this lifetime or the next my heart will always find its way to you. Rest easy my love.'
