Beverley Callard Shares Hopeful Update After Cancer Surgery
Coronation Street icon Beverley Callard has been openly documenting her brave fight against breast cancer, keeping her dedicated followers informed through regular Instagram updates. The actress, who recently moved to Dublin for a new role in the Irish soap Fair City, received her diagnosis in a dramatic moment just before filming her first scenes. ‘I was in my dressing room at Fair City, getting ready to go on, and my consultant rang me and said, ‘You’ve got to come back to the UK,’ she recounted during an appearance on RTÉ's The Late Late Show. ‘I was diagnosed with breast cancer. But I’m fine. I’m absolutely fine.’
Journey Through Surgery and Recovery
Beverley has filmed key aspects of her health journey, including an operation to remove lymph nodes and her subsequent recovery process. She has been flooded with support from fans and colleagues alike, earning widespread praise for her candid portrayal of a reality faced by thousands of women worldwide. This week, she provided another encouraging update, sharing details from a recent hospital visit. ‘Well, today has been a great day. I got to the hospital at 9am,’ she began in a video. ‘Jon came in with me because, if you remember, last week I really didn’t want him to come in when they took the dressings off for the first time.’
During the appointment, her consultant delivered positive news: Beverley does not need a second operation. She described a significant swelling under her arm, measuring about three inches long and one and a half inches wide, which has begun to soften and turn into fluid. ‘It will slowly just release into my system and then out of my system so I’m really thrilled about that,’ she explained.
Next Steps and Return to Work
The next phase involves waiting for test results in about four weeks to determine if all cancer was removed and whether it spread to the lymph nodes. If cancer-free, Beverley will start radiotherapy shortly after; otherwise, she plans to address any further challenges as they arise. ‘I have a feeling I will be. I don’t why I have that feeling but I just have,’ she expressed optimistically.
This good news means Beverley can resume her professional commitments. She outlined her schedule: ‘So it means that I will be doing all the PR stuff in London on Sunday and Monday, come back Tuesday, then on Thursday, I go back to Dublin and Saturday I begin working on Fair City again. I am dying for my scripts to come – I can’t wait!’ She also took time for self-care, getting her roots done and Botox, and offered words of encouragement to others: ‘Any woman who is going through this – we are all f****** warriors and I hope you get good news as well.’
Beverley continues to appreciate the outpouring of support, urging fans to keep sending messages as she navigates this journey with resilience and hope.
