It is a running joke among my friends that I am never without a mini electric or handheld fan in my bag or pocket. Even in winter, I always carry one. So when I heard Dyson was releasing their first handheld fan, my interest was piqued, and I eagerly awaited the chance to try it.
The brand is renowned for its excellent tower fans, so it made sense they would miniaturize that technology for a portable option. The result is the HushJet™ Mini Cool Fan.
Jake Dyson, Chief Engineer at Dyson, said: 'Since 2009, we have been obsessed with airflow. Mastering air projection, reducing turbulence, and refining thermal technology. The HushJet™ Mini Cool Fan is the culmination of that journey: powerful airflow, engineered for life on the move by bringing elite cooling technology from every home to your hand.'
The HushJet™ Mini Cool Fan retails for £99.99. Fortunately, I had a trip to Las Vegas and Los Angeles planned, where temperatures reached 38°C, giving me the perfect opportunity to put it through its paces.
First Impressions: Lightweight and Portable
The first thing I noticed was how lightweight it is. At just 212 grams, it is slim and minimal, making it easy to slip into a bag without adding bulk.
Performance in the Heat
When the Nevada heat kicked in, I put it to work. If you want a Beyoncé fan moment, this is the one. It offers five airflow speeds plus a boost mode for extra power, allowing you to adjust from a gentle breeze to an intense blast. I cannot fault the range of settings.
Of course, higher speeds come with noise. It is not the quietest at maximum power, but it is also not the loudest compared to cheaper models. Instead of a high-pitched whir or clanking, it produces a low hum, which is expected given its power.
Battery Life and Versatility
The battery life is impressive. Many devices I have used do not last a full night out, but this one boasts up to six hours, ensuring you stay cool whenever needed.
Another advantage is its multifunctionality. It can be used handheld, placed on a surface with the included base attachment, or worn around the neck with the strap, leaving your hands free.
Value for Money
Compared to similar fans, the Dyson HushJet™ Mini Cool Fan delivers a more professional and targeted experience. The power is unmatched, and the sleek design and technology justify the £99.99 price tag. Moreover, it is not as expensive as some competitors.
The fan comes in three colourways: Ink/Cobalt Blue, Carnelian/Sky, and Stone/Blush, so you can find a style that suits you.
As summer approaches and temperatures rise, now is the perfect time to prepare and stay cool.
