In a deeply distressing development, Kingsbury High School in Brent will remain closed tomorrow following a serious incident this afternoon that saw two students stabbed on the premises. The school's headteacher has issued a full statement to parents and carers, confirming the closure of the Lower School while the Upper School will remain open for older pupils.
Headteacher's Statement on School Closure
Headmaster Alex Thomas circulated an urgent letter to the school community, describing the event as 'a deeply traumatic event for the whole school community'. He expressed profound sorrow over the incident, stating: "I am very sorry to inform you that there was a serious incident at school today in which two students were stabbed. Our thoughts and best wishes are with our students and their families at this incredibly difficult time."
Mr Thomas confirmed that the Lower School will be closed on Wednesday, February 11, with pupils instructed to stay at home. However, the Upper School will remain open for students in Years 10 to 13. He acknowledged the upsetting nature of this news while emphasising that the situation is under control, though a live police investigation continues.
Police Investigation and Arrest
The incident occurred at approximately 12.40pm today when two boys, aged 12 and 13, were found injured at the school. Both victims have been taken to hospital, with their current conditions awaiting updates from medical authorities.
Police have arrested a 13-year-old suspect on suspicion of attempted murder and have recovered a weapon believed to have been used in the stabbing. Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams, who leads policing in North West London, addressed community concerns, stating: "We recognise that this incident will cause considerable concern within the community. We want to reassure local students, parents and local residents that we have deployed significant resources to the area."
Community Response and Support
The headteacher praised the emergency services for their swift response and thanked school staff for their calm and dedicated support of students throughout the day. He noted that Lower School students were kept in the playground at police request during initial investigations, describing them as "incredibly patient and respectful of others during this time."
Councillor Muhammed Butt, leader of Brent Council, expressed horror at the incident, stating: "This is a deeply shocking and distressing incident, and our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been injured, their families and the whole school community. No parent should ever have to fear for their child's safety at school."
He particularly highlighted the alarming aspect of weapon possession among young people, adding: "It is horrifying to think of how someone so young came to be in possession of a weapon capable of causing such harm."
Ongoing Investigation and Updates
The school administration has committed to working closely with authorities and providing further updates as confirmed information becomes available. Headmaster Thomas urged the community to keep the injured students and their families in their thoughts during this challenging period.
Detective Chief Superintendent Williams concluded his remarks by thanking paramedics and doctors providing care to the injured boys, while promising that police would provide further updates when possible as their investigation progresses.
