Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) led its largest-ever delegation to the BIO International Convention 2026, held in San Diego, California. The delegation included 20 cutting-edge biotech startups, marking a significant step in Hong Kong's efforts to expand its global footprint in biotechnology.

Record-Breaking Participation

The 2026 delegation surpassed previous years, with a 25% increase in participating startups compared to 2024. This growth reflects Hong Kong's rising prominence in the biotech sector, supported by government initiatives and world-class research infrastructure.

According to Dr. Sunny Chai, Chairman of HKSTP, This record-breaking delegation demonstrates Hong Kong's commitment to becoming a global biotech hub. The startups we brought to BIO 2026 represent the best of Hong Kong's innovation and entrepreneurial spirit.

Showcasing Innovation

The startups presented a diverse range of technologies, including AI-driven drug discovery, gene editing, and advanced diagnostics. Notable participants included InnoCell Biotech, which unveiled a novel platform for personalized cancer vaccines, and GenEdit Therapeutics, which showcased a non-viral gene therapy delivery system.

HKSTP also organized a dedicated Hong Kong pavilion, where delegates engaged in over 300 business meetings with potential partners, investors, and collaborators from around the world.

Strategic Importance

BIO 2026, one of the largest biotech events globally, attracted over 20,000 attendees from 70 countries. HKSTP's participation aligns with Hong Kong's 14th Five-Year Plan, which prioritizes innovation and technology as key drivers of economic growth.

The delegation's success is expected to attract more international biotech firms to establish a presence in Hong Kong, leveraging its robust intellectual property protection and proximity to the Greater Bay Area market.

Dr. Chai added, We are confident that these partnerships will accelerate the development of life-saving therapies and position Hong Kong as a leader in the global biotech landscape.
