East London Brewing Co Expands to Blackhorse Beer Mile

Walthamstow's popular Blackhorse Beer Mile is set to welcome a new brewery, East London Brewing Co (ELBC), which has secured a late-night music licence to host live performances until midnight on select weekdays. The independent brewhouse's new unit features both indoor and outdoor gig spaces, combining craft beer with live music.

Extended Music Curfew

ELBC operator Ronnie Finch successfully petitioned Waltham Forest Council on April 16 for permission to extend the curfew. On Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, live acts can now perform indoors until midnight, while outdoor music will end at 10pm. This extra hour allows for a more relaxed atmosphere without the rush to finish performances early.

New Venue Features

The new unit, located at Unit 2-4 Lockwood Way, Blackhorse Road, E17 5RB, is a notable addition to the Blackhorse Beer Mile, an industrial area turned brewery hotspot near Blackhorse Road station. It includes an outside bar for live DJ sets and an outdoor terrace with benches and tables, perfect for warm summer evenings.

The venue will launch over the May bank holiday weekend (May 1-3), coinciding with the Blackhorse Road birthday festival. Highlights include a food truck takeover by Play With Fire, expertly crafted cocktails by Tiempo Tequila, live music, DJs, and entertainment for children.

Community Engagement

ELBC is deeply rooted in east London, regularly participating in local initiatives like the Walthamstow Beer Project, which encourages residents to grow hops in their gardens—now in its 11th year. The brewery also recently opened the Empire Tavern in Hackney at the end of March, a pub-diner partnership with Taverns East Pub Group.

East London Brewing Co's new brewery opens on May 1 at Unit 2-4 Lockwood Way, Blackhorse Road, E17 5RB. For more updates on London events and trends, follow Time Out London's WhatsApp channel or sign up for their free newsletter.
