Jackass: Best and Last will make you gag then cry minutes later. The final instalment of the franchise features a never-before-seen clip from 1998 of Johnny Knoxville testing a cheap bulletproof vest by shooting himself with a .38-caliber Smith and Wesson pistol, footage MTV refused to air. The scene leaves viewers sweating just minutes into the film, which pushes boundaries with an XL dose of disgusting stunts, from robot rectal examinations lubricated with crunchy peanut butter to penis shock collars.
New and archive footage split 50/50
The film balances new stunts with classic archive material, offering a sleazy trip down memory lane. Knoxville, Chris Pontius, Steve-O, and the gang prove that physically torturing yourself at 50 is as unhinged as it was 25 years ago. Speaking at the UK special screening at the BFI IMAX in London, Knoxville told Metro: 'I've said before that we're finished, but this is really it. It feels like a good place to end. We wanted to go out on our own terms and it feels like we have with this film.'
Emotional final scene and nostalgia
Director Jeff Tremaine noted the emotional impact: 'The final scene hit me more in the edit bay, there was a lot of nostalgia on that last big stunt. In the edit bay I was looking back at footage of how young we were… that hit me hard.' Chris Pontius added: 'It was emotional to film the last scene, but it was such a good time too. It's just feels like it's all gone by so fast, but it's so nice to look back on those days when we first started Jackass and remember all of the good times.'
Gross-out stunts and standout moments
While newer stunts like Sean McInerney (Poopies) being injected with lip filler pale compared to Knoxville's near-death rocket launch in 2006, one scene involving laxatives, clear underwear, and a game of Twister nearly didn't make the cut, according to Tremaine. The close-up shots will be etched into memory long after the credits roll.
Cast and release details
The film stars Johnny Knoxville, Chris Pontius, Steve-O, Wee Man, Dave England, Danger Ehren, Preston Lacy, Rachel Wolfson, Jasper Dolphin, Dark Shark, Sean McInerney, and Zach Holmes. With a runtime of 92 minutes and an 18 age rating, Jackass: Best and Last releases in cinemas on June 26, 2026. The final scene, which Knoxville insisted on filming at substantial extra cost, is surprisingly moving and left this reviewer tearful.
Verdict
Jackass: Best and Last is a nauseating trip down memory lane and a greatest hits compilation. The newer stunts lack the dancing-with-death factor of earlier years, but the film still delivers eye-covering grossness. In 2026, it makes you wonder how much of the franchise is still genuinely funny or just a nostalgic reminder of a time before YouTube pranks and TikTok rage bait. Either way, the words 'Hi, I'm Johnny Knoxville and welcome to Jackass!' will live on beyond the final hurrah.
