Coronation Street star Lucy-Jo Hudson, who played Katy Harris on the show from 2002 to 2005, has announced her engagement to partner Lewis Devine after eight years together. The actress, now 42, shared the news on Instagram, revealing that the proposal was a complete surprise.
A Surprise Proposal in the Lakes
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Lucy-Jo wrote that she is 'on cloud nine' after Lewis proposed during a trip to the Lake District, a place special to their relationship. 'He took me back to the Lakes, where some of our first memories began. We spent the day reminiscing, just us, walking through the most beautiful quiet gardens with no one else around,' she said. 'We talked about our kids, our future, how far we’ve come and then Lew just held me tight, telling me about how much he loves our kids, and how he can’t imagine doing life without me… and then suddenly, he was on one knee.'
Lucy-Jo admitted she was already crying and said yes before he finished asking. She described the moment as 'quiet and perfect' with no big audience, just the two of them. The actress also shared a mirror selfie showing off her diamond ring, which shimmered in the light as she held a glass of fizz to celebrate.
From Coronation Street to Real Life
Lucy-Jo first rose to fame as Katy Harris, a troubled teen on Coronation Street whose storyline included killing her father with a wrench and later committing suicide, a period fans call the 'Killer Katy' era. After leaving the cobbles, she appeared in Hollyoaks as Donna-Marie Quinn and made multiple appearances on Casualty.
She previously dated Coronation Street star Alan Halsall, who plays Tyrone Dobbs. The couple met during her time on the show and married in 2019, but split in 2018 after nine years of marriage, sparking a public fallout. They have a daughter together, Sienna.
New Beginnings with Lewis Devine
Two months after her split from Alan, Lucy-Jo began dating Lewis Devine, whom she met while starring together in a stage production of Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs in 2017. Lewis and Alan had become friends during the run. A friend revealed that Lucy-Jo and Lewis shared an instant chemistry, but she was married at the time. After her marriage ended, something slowly developed between them.
The couple now have a blended family, and Lucy-Jo expressed her joy in the post: 'After all our ups and downs, we’ve come out stronger, and now we get forever. Thank you for choosing us, always. I love you baby @lewisdevineofficial and I can’t wait to marry you.'
