King Charles Roasted in 'Hilarious' SNL Joke After US Visit
King Charles Roasted in 'Hilarious' SNL Joke After US Visit

King Charles was the subject of a brutal roast on Saturday Night Live following his recent trip to the United States. The American comedy institution mocked the King's historic visit to President Donald Trump, branding Meghan Markle a 'terrorist' and joking about his brother, former Prince Andrew.

Trump's Red Carpet Welcome

This came after Trump rolled out the red carpet for the King and Queen Camilla, describing him as 'the greatest King, in my book.' Trump posted on social media after the visit, revealing that he was removing tariffs on Scotch whisky, stating: 'The King and Queen got me to do something that nobody else was able to do, without hardly even asking!' Meanwhile, a statement from Buckingham Palace described the King's visit as 'a most enjoyable State Visit.'

SNL Weekend Update Takes Aim

In the most recent episode of Saturday Night Live, its Weekend Update segment took aim at the 'special relationship' between the US and UK, ensuring that the King did not come out unscathed. Co-anchor Michael Che kicked off by commenting on Charles' meeting with New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani. 'I'm surprised he didn't take Mamdani back to England with him, because he is an Indian treasure,' joked Che. This was in reference to Mamdani's previous comments about urging the King to return the Koh-i-Noor diamond, which was seized by the British East India Company in 1949.

Colin Jost then continued by saying that Charles' visit was subterfuge to 'seek the release of a British hostage being held by an American terrorist' – meaning Prince Harry's marriage to Meghan Markle. The pair finished off by joking about Trump's own association with the former Prince Andrew. Noting how the King had said to 'give us a ring' should the States ever need to get in touch, Jost added: 'Or Trump could just call the guy saved in his phone as Andrew (Island).' In the background, the show brought up an image of Andrew (Island).

Charles' Gift and Departure

This comes after Charles gifted Trump a golden bell from a World War II submarine named HMS Trump. Soon after, The King and Queen departed the US after four days spent Stateside, which had taken in visits to Washington DC, New York City, and Virginia.

Viewer Reactions

Sharing their thoughts as the segment aired, viewers expressed appreciation for the hosts' ribbing of royalty. Noting that Che 'came in hot,' MrAlvinSane commented on X that 'we are starting early today.' On YouTube, PCR10023 described this Weekend Update as 'the best part of the entire show,' while tthappyrock368 said that Jost and Che were 'slaying it.' 'Andrew (Island) is a perfect mix of funny and realistic,' said TheWacoKidd. 'That's how I save people's names while I party.' Meanwhile, dariusconnoley4022 singled out the Mamdani joke for praise, remarking that it had 'one of the nicest most sincere punchlines I've heard. It was hilarious seeing Colin gauge the crowd's response.'

SNL UK Edition

Across the seas, Saturday Night Live's UK edition took aim at their American counterpart. Hosted by Aimee Lou Wood, the actress responded to SNL's White Lotus parody in a promotional skit titled 'Amiee Lou Wood Wipes the Slate Clean.' Referencing a cruel sketch which had mocked her teeth, the Sex Education star arrived on set to find the cast and crew all covering their mouths. 'Oh my god have you guys got fake teeth in?' she said. 'Wow, this is all just one big setup to humiliate me then. I thought SNL UK would be different, but I was wrong.' Wood previously called out the US skit – titled The White POTUS last year – describing it as 'mean and unfunny.' She said that comedian Sherman sent her flowers and apologised for the spoof sketch afterward, as did SNL.
