Pierce Brosnan, 73, has admitted he felt no guilt while gunning down numerous extras in the opening scene of MobLand season two, describing the experience as “so much fun” in an interview with Metro. The crime thriller, created by Ronan Bennett, stars Tom Hardy as a fixer for the Harrigan crime family, led by Brosnan's Conrad and Dame Helen Mirren's Maeve. The series premieres its second season today exclusively on Paramount Plus.
Violent Opening Scene Draws Praise from Cast
The season two opening set piece is described as one of the most violent spectacles on television this year, involving Conrad and Maeve using intense negotiation techniques that may involve shooting mobsters in undesirable places. Brosnan, who played James Bond until 2002, grinned when asked if he felt any guilt about the carnage, saying, “Not at all. It was so much fun. It was the best.”
Dame Helen compared the show's violence to a “Jacobean tragedy,” and both actors praised the extras in the scene. “They were superb,” joked Brosnan. “They died really well.” The pair also discussed working with director Guy Ritchie on the episode, with Dame Helen noting his “incredible eye for the visual” amidst the “chaotic and improvisational” style. Brosnan added that Ritchie “acted it out” the scene for them.
Future Threats and On-Set Rumors Addressed
Looking ahead, the Harrigans face a new threat from the unhinged Frankie Cooper, played by Johnny Flynn. Brosnan and Dame Helen declined to reveal plot details, with Dame Helen saying, “We want the audience to be on a journey of discovery.” Brosnan also addressed rumors of on-set rifts with Tom Hardy, calling them a “storm in a teacup” and adding, “I love the dude. I love Tom Hardy. I’m a massive fan of the man’s work. Truly. We are rock solid as a company, as a family.”
