Ubisoft has officially unveiled the remake of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, titled Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, showcasing all-new features in action. The game, which has been one of the most heavily leaked titles in recent memory, was first rumored three years ago and has now been confirmed with a detailed behind-the-scenes video.
A Significant Overhaul
The remake brings a considerable visual upgrade over the 2013 original, with high-resolution textures, enhanced lighting, and more detailed environments. However, Ubisoft has emphasized that the game remains a straight action-adventure title, not redesigned as an action role-playing game like newer entries in the series.
Gameplay Improvements
Key gameplay changes include a dynamic weather system, entirely new combat described as 'faster' and 'more fluid', and improved parkour with tighter controls. The stealth system now allows crouching at any time, and tailing or eavesdropping missions are more forgiving, removing instant fail conditions.
New Content and Characters
Three new officers join the crew: Lucy Baldwin, The Padre, and Dead Man Smith, each offering unique abilities for the Jackdaw, such as double shot broadsides. All weapons now feature alternate fire modes. Each officer has a Mass Effect-style narrative quest. Players can also own a pet cat or monkey, and new sea shanties have been added alongside classics.
Story and Multiplayer
Ubisoft confirms the core story remains unchanged, but new narrative arcs and missions for characters like Blackbeard and Edward's wife Caroline are included. However, there will be no multiplayer mode, and no plans to remake the original DLC. The modern-day elements will be minimized and may not follow the original sub-plot.
Release Details
A Collector's Edition was unveiled, featuring a statue, Kenway's diary notebook, a brooch, and a cloth map, priced at £174.99 in the UK. The standard edition costs £59.99 on consoles. The release date is July 9 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
