We have reached the end of April, and that means a fresh batch of Michelin Guide-recommended restaurants in London is here to add to your ever-growing list of places to try. Throughout the year, Michelin inspectors dine at new restaurants across the country to determine whether they deserve a spot in the coveted guide. In April, 18 eateries across Britain and Ireland were added to the roster, with eight of those located in London.
New London Additions to the Michelin Guide
The newest London members of the Michelin Guide include a Japanese-Peruvian restaurant in Notting Hill (Fan), a Turkish joint in Canary Wharf (NORA), and a cozy pub in Marylebone (The Hart). New restaurants are constantly opening in the city, and there is only so much food our stomachs can handle, so we have not yet tried all of the newly recognized places. However, here is what we think of four of the Michelin Guide's latest London additions.
Moi, Soho
At Moi, you will find innovative cocktails and an extensive menu of sushi, Japanese-style small plates, and grilled meats. When visiting in November, Time Out food editor Leonie Cooper tried a gooey sea trout tartare chu maki brushed with a glossy and creamy yuzukosho emulsion, tuna tataki in a pool of zingy grapefruit liquor, and smoked cod's roe with Lao Gan Ma chilli sauce and fried and steamed doughnut-style buns, which she described as a must-order.
Osteria Angelina, Shoreditch
In her glowing five-star review of Osteria Angelina, Time Out contributor Chiara Wilkinson hailed its Japanese-Italian menu as interesting and adventurous and absolutely, hands-down brilliant. The Zone 1 sister to Dalston's Angelina opened last May. Expect dishes like ox tongue with wasabi, cod cheek karaage, fazzoletti with duck ragu, or truffle and kombu tortellini.
Mareida, Fitzrovia
Slick and stylish Mareida launched on Great Portland Street last summer, bringing cuisine from the Chilean coast and mountains to Fitzrovia. Menu highlights include mushroom, beef, and seafood empanadas; raviolo with morels; conger eel with fish broth; and pastel de choclo, a combination of lamb shoulder, poached eggs, and raisins. Time Out staffer Ella Doyle tried it and said the desserts, such as hojarasca and membrillo, are where Mareida really shines.
Motorino, Fitzrovia
Motorino is from the same team behind Town in Covent Garden, a 20-minute walk away. But food editor Leonie Cooper says Motorino has something its sibling does not: one of London's hypiest chefs beavering away in the kitchen. Chef Luke Aherne serves up London-Italian fare like grilled Cornish sardines, bluefin tuna carpaccio, agnolotti carbonara, and slow-cooked Peposo beef cheek stew with polenta. Cocktails are courtesy of one of the city's best bars, Satan's Whiskers.
