The World Cup 2026 kicked off with a spectacular opening ceremony in Toronto, where Canada earned its first ever point in a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The event featured performances by Michael Bublé and Alanis Morissette, among others.

Opening Ceremony Highlights

Indigenous performers began the ceremony, followed by Alessia Cara singing amid puppet representations of native Canadian animals. Sanjoy, Nora Fatehi, and Vegedream also performed, and Elyanna and Jessie Reyez closed the first part of the show.

Flag Bearers and National Anthem

After a break, the parade of nations took place with flag bearers. Michael Bublé then performed, and Alanis Morissette sang the Canadian national anthem. The ceremony concluded with a flyover by the Canadian Forces Snowbirds.

The Match

Bosnia and Herzegovina took the lead in the first half through Jovo Lukic. Canada pushed for an equalizer, with Richie Laryea’s shot hitting the crossbar.
