Kate Winslet reveals Eminem's bizarre SNL request: 'Shave my bottom'
Kate Winslet: Eminem asked me to shave his bottom

Academy Award-winning actress Kate Winslet has shared a hilariously intimate and previously untold story about her encounter with rap superstar Eminem on a famous US television show.

A Never-Before-Told Backstage Tale

During an appearance on BBC One's The Graham Norton Show on Friday, 6th December 2025, the 50-year-old star recounted a bizarre moment from her time hosting Saturday Night Live (SNL) in 2004. Winslet was promoting the film Finding Neverland when she hosted the iconic sketch show, with Eminem serving as the musical guest for that episode.

She prefaced the anecdote by telling Norton and the studio audience, "This is a story I've never, never told." She then revealed the hip-hop icon's unexpected proposition: "Eminem asked me to shave his bottom." Laughing, she added to the BBC One audience, "It's always like a poo/bum theme for me when I come on this show."

The Unforgettable Interaction

Norton, intrigued, questioned whether a handheld razor was involved. Winslet then slipped into an American accent to recreate the surreal exchange. "He said, 'Would you shave my butt?' And I said, 'I'm sorry. I don't do personal grooming,'" she recalled. The Titanic star firmly concluded, "I'm not going to go with a BIC and get your crack love. Never told that story before ever in my life in public."

Winslet explained that the entire SNL experience was "absolutely terrifying" due to immense pressure following a major lip-syncing scandal. The week before her appearance, singer Ashlee Simpson faced intense criticism for blatantly failing to sing along to her track Pieces of Me live on the show. This forced the SNL writing team to work extra hard to ensure Winslet's episode was flawless.

The Pressure of a Last-Minute Monologue

Kate Winslet described the chaotic lead-up to the live broadcast, revealing that her opening monologue was still undecided just days before. "I get to Wednesday night, still, they're like, 'Well, we're just trying to figure it out.' I'm like, 'Just please tell me, it's a couple of days away, just what you're going to have me do,'" she said.

The following day, writers asked if she could tap dance and sing. Upon her agreement, they simply replied, "Perfect. We'll get back to you." Winslet, who ultimately performed a tap-dancing monologue, was left in suspense. "I'm like, Oh my god, now what's happening? This is absolutely terrible. They gave me 24 hours to learn," she recounted.
