Netflix's most addictive real estate show, Selling Sunset, has reportedly axed five major cast members ahead of filming for its upcoming 10th season. After nine seasons of shocking fallouts and high-stakes drama set in the glamorous world of Los Angeles luxury property, the series is undergoing a massive shake-up.
Who Got the Axe?
According to the Daily Mail, the cast members who will not return for season 10 include Emma Hernan (joined in season four), original cast member Mary Bonnet, Chelsea Lazkani (joined in season five), Alanna Gold (joined in season eight), and Sandra Vergara, sister of Sofia Vergara (joined in season nine). None of the ousted stars have publicly addressed their departures except Alanna Gold, who shared on Instagram that she decided to leave the show in February.
In a video, Alanna said: 'It's been an amazing journey and I've definitely grown a lot from the experience. However, I just kind of decided that it was time for me to focus on other things that are taking priority in my life right now.' She added that she has been focusing on real estate, a new business venture, her personal life, and her dog, Porcini.
Fan Reactions
Fans have expressed shock and disappointment over the exits. Reddit user PinkBunny86 wrote: 'I'm so shocked at this overhaul. Getting rid of Mary is truly surprising, I never imagined Jason [Oppenheim] allowing that to happen.' Another user, P31998, declared: 'Cancel Sunset already. This shouldn't even be considered a real estate show anymore.' However, some fans are optimistic, with Johndoesisoptimistic noting: 'This is definitely giving "return to form". Bringing two of the OG girls and a semi-OG, with some new girls, I assume, might be what the show needs.'
Returning Cast Members
In contrast to the departures, two familiar faces are returning: Christine Quinn and Heather Rae El Moussa, announced at the end of April. Bre Tiesi and Amanza Smith are also confirmed to come back. Christine explained her return: 'Adam DiVello and I reconnected after my divorce, and I really appreciate him extending the invitation to come back on. I'm returning from a very different place, with more perspective, confidence, and clarity.'
Executive Producer's Excitement
Jason Oppenheim, the show's executive producer and Oppenheim Group founder, shared his enthusiasm with TMZ: 'I think I'm more excited about this season than probably any season ever. The first few seasons I was anxious and nervous, and then I was more stressed the last few seasons. I love those two, I love having some OGs back. I think this season's going to be awesome.'
Metro has reached out to Netflix for comment. The shake-up comes as the show aims to revive its sparkle after critics noted a decline in recent seasons. With Christine Quinn's return as the 'villain,' the upcoming season promises fresh drama and, as always, enviable property porn.
