Chappell Roan Faces Backlash Over Incident Involving Jude Law's Daughter
American singer Chappell Roan, whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, has found herself embroiled in controversy after an alleged incident involving Jude Law's 11-year-old daughter, Ada. The 28-year-old artist is accused of sending a security guard to confront the young girl at a hotel in São Paulo, Brazil, during the Lollapalooza Brazil festival, leaving Ada reportedly "in tears" and shaken.
Jorginho Frello's Emotional Social Media Statement
Brazilian soccer star Jorginho Frello, who is married to Catherine Harding—the mother of Ada—took to social media to describe what he called a "very sad situation." He explained that his wife and stepdaughter were staying at the same hotel as Chappell Roan during the festival, where the singer performed overnight.
According to Jorginho, Ada had made a sign expressing her admiration for the artist and was excited to potentially see her. During breakfast, Chappell Roan walked past their table, and Ada simply looked to confirm it was her, smiled, and returned to her mother without speaking or approaching.
"What happened next was completely disproportionate," Jorginho wrote. He claimed that a large security guard approached their table and spoke aggressively to both Catherine and Ada, accusing the child of "disrespect" and "harassment." The guard allegedly threatened to file a complaint with the hotel, while Ada sat crying.
Reactions and Consequences
Jorginho, who has experience with public exposure through football, emphasized that Ada's actions were merely those of a child admiring someone, not harassment. He tagged Chappell Roan's official account, stating, "WITHOUT YOUR FANS, YOU WOULD BE NOTHING. AND TO THE FANS, SHE DOES NOT DESERVE YOUR AFFECTION."
The post went viral, prompting Rio mayor Eduardo Cavaliere to declare that Chappell Roan is banned from performing in the city as long as he is in charge. Catherine later shared that Ada decided to skip Chappell's show, opting instead for a girls' day shopping and dinner.
Chappell Roan's History with Fan Interactions
This incident adds to Chappell Roan's somewhat fraught history with fans. In 2024, around the time she rose to fame, she posted a TikTok video calling out "creepy" and "invasive" behavior, stating that women don't owe anything to fans in non-work settings. She has previously criticized both paparazzi and fans for what she described as hounding.
Jorginho and Catherine tied the knot last year after four years together and also share a son, Jax, born in 2020. Jude Law, who dated Catherine when she was 23 and he was 41, has since married psychologist Phillipa Coan and welcomed two children with her.
As the story gains traction, representatives for Chappell Roan and Jude Law have been contacted for comment, but no official statements have been released yet. The incident highlights ongoing tensions between celebrities and their admirers, especially when involving young fans.
