Amazon Delivery Driver Filmed Allegedly Stealing Family Cat in Shocking Doorbell Footage

A West Yorkshire man has been left devastated after his beloved cat was allegedly stolen by an Amazon delivery driver, with the entire incident captured on a doorbell camera. Carl Crowther, 53, from Elland, spent a day searching for his missing pet, Nora, only to discover the disturbing footage that showed the driver picking up the cat and walking away after delivering a package.

Outdoor Cat Vanishes After Package Delivery

Carl had been expecting an Amazon delivery from Zara for his daughter at their home in Elland on Sunday. Nora, an outdoor cat who "knows her way home," had not been seen all day, but Carl initially wasn't overly concerned. However, when she failed to return by the following morning, he and his partner, Sarah, 52, grew suspicious and decided to check their doorbell camera footage.

The footage revealed a delivery driver approaching the door, failing to get a response as no one was home, and then allegedly picking up Nora before walking off with her. Carl described the driver as being at the property for over six minutes. "He comes right up the door, picks up the cat, turns around and walks off," he said, expressing his disgust at the incident.

Family's Distress and Amazon's Controversial Response

The family reported the theft to the police via the non-emergency number 101 and had a video call with officers, who promised to follow up within 48 hours. Carl also contacted Amazon to report the incident. He was appalled when the company asked what "monetary value" he would place on Nora. "How can you put a value on somebody's pet?" he questioned, highlighting the emotional bond rather than financial worth.

Carl is particularly worried about Nora's health, as she has a heart murmur and requires medication. He is urging for a swift police response to ensure her safety and return.

Ongoing Investigations by Authorities and Amazon

West Yorkshire Police confirmed they received a report of a cat being stolen from outside a property on Park Avenue, Elland, at around 2.30 pm on Monday, 19 January. A spokesperson stated, "A crime of theft has been recorded, and enquiries remain ongoing."

Amazon has acknowledged the incident, with a spokesperson confirming that the company is investigating and has been in contact with the police. The case has drawn attention to broader concerns about pet theft and delivery driver conduct, prompting calls for stricter accountability measures in the logistics industry.

This distressing event underscores the vulnerability of pets and the importance of security measures like doorbell cameras in providing evidence for such alleged crimes.
