The Royal Nawaab Pyramid in Stockport, known as the world's biggest curry house, serves up to 6,000 customers daily and 10,000 weekly, despite the UK hospitality industry struggling. The restaurant, featured in a Channel 4 special, spends £100,000 weekly on food, using 520 kilos of rice, 5,000 poppadoms, and 220kg of spices. It employs over 150 staff, including 65 chefs and 40 cleaners, and hosts up to nine weddings each weekend across four private spaces within a restored pyramid.
A Unique Dining Experience
Located beside a Stockport highway, the pyramid had been abandoned for nearly a decade before being revived by Royal Nawaab. The 37-metre-high structure features a glossy blue glass exterior and marble floors cleaned three times daily. Marketing director Bilal explains that quality is prioritized over quantity, with founder Mr Maboob, a 75-year-old immigrant from Pakistan, personally inspecting every dish via FaceTime even when abroad.
Behind the Scenes
The restaurant operates around the clock, with staff including eight pot washers cleaning 10,000 dishes nightly. One chef specializes in preparing Manipuri, a complex street food dish. The team focuses on spotting food trends, offering dishes like fattoush salad, chicken tikka, and signature fries. Desserts include a custom Mr Whippy ice cream created with a French specialist.
Surviving the Crisis
While over 1,100 pubs and restaurants closed in the UK between October 2024 and August 2025, Royal Nawaab thrives by emphasizing service over interiors. Bilal notes, 'Places are spending too much on interiors and not enough on delivering service.' The all-you-can-eat buffet costs £31.99, attracting customers globally, including prime ministers who request the food on private jets.
TV Special
Filmed over 10 weeks, the Channel 4 one-off special 'The World's Biggest Curry Restaurant' airs on May 22 at 8pm. It highlights the team's dedication, from head chef Honey to wedding coordinator Saaj, and the restaurant's social media success with over 300,000 TikTok followers.
