Pub giant JD Wetherspoon has launched a major January sale across the UK, slashing prices on drinks and food in a bid to attract customers during the traditionally quiet post-Christmas period.
Drink Deals to Tempt Every Patron
The headline offer sees pints of Worthington’s beer available for as little as 99p. Spirit lovers are also catered for, with a 25ml measure of Johnnie Walker Black Label whisky or Tanqueray gin, including a mixer, priced at £1.99.
For wine drinkers, 250ml glasses of Coldwater Creek wine – including Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Rosé, and Merlot – are on sale for £2.99.
Recognising the popularity of Dry January, the chain has also included a wide range of alcohol-free options. Drinks like Guinness 0.0, Corona Cero, BrewDog Punk AF, and Gordon’s 0.0 pink gin are all offered at £1.69 each.
Substantial Food Discounts Available
The discounts extend beyond the bar. Punters can get an 11-inch Margherita pizza or a crunchy chicken burger with chips or salad for £4.99, which includes a soft drink. Adding an alcoholic drink brings the price to £6.52.
Wetherspoon's recently expanded jacket potato range is also part of the promotion. A standard jacket with one filling, such as tuna mayo, cheese, or chilli bean non-carne, is also £4.99 with a soft drink.
For those wanting something more indulgent, three gourmet jacket potato options are available for £6.49 with a soft drink. These include the Loaded Spud, the Mexican Spud, and the Smoky Spud with pulled BBQ beef brisket.
Sale Strategy and Responsible Service
The sale prices are active at over 600 of Wetherspoon’s roughly 800 UK pubs, though prices at the remaining locations may vary. Customers are advised to check if their local is participating.
Explaining the rationale behind a pub sale in January, founder and chairman Tim Martin said, ‘Department stores and shops hold their sales in January, so it is the perfect time to also have a sale in the pubs.’
He emphasised the inclusive range, noting the large selection of low and non-alcoholic drinks, and added, ‘As always, staff at the pub will serve customers responsibly.’ The company encourages all patrons to drink responsibly during the promotion.
The sale, first announced in early January 2026, represents a significant value push by one of the UK's largest hospitality operators during a month when many consumers are cutting back.
