The acclaimed team behind London's celebrated Tamil Prince gastropubs is set to launch its third and largest branch of the Tamila restaurant brand, bringing its distinctive South Indian flavours to the heart of Soho this February.
A Coveted Soho Location for Tamil Nadu Specialities
Slated to open at 19-20 Poland Street, W1F 8QF, the new Tamila marks a significant expansion for the mini-chain, which already operates successful sites in King's Cross and Clapham. The move into the vibrant West End district fulfils a long-held ambition for co-founder Prince Durairaj.
"Soho has always felt like a playground for some of London's most exciting and much-loved restaurants, so opening here has been a real dream of mine," Durairaj said. "It's such a special and energetic part of the city for hospitality, and I feel incredibly grateful to be bringing Tamila into the mix."
What to Expect on the Menu
The restaurant's menu will continue to focus on dishes from the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Diners can expect signature curries such as the Thanjavur chicken curry and the Chettinad lamb curry, alongside staples like garlic coriander naan.
Following the format of its sister sites, the Soho branch will also offer a substantial vegetarian selection. This will feature a variety of meat-free options including different dosas and dhals.
Building on Critical Acclaim
The expansion follows the resounding success of the original King's Cross Tamila, which opened last year and received a coveted five-star review from Time Out London. Critics particularly praised its tandoori and curry dishes.
In the review, the paneer tikka was noted for its tenderness and served with a sharp pineapple chutney, while the dhal was described as complex and the paneer butter masala as both creamy and generous.
The new opening on Poland Street in February 2026 represents the group's most ambitious project to date, positioning its take on Tamil Nadu cuisine alongside Soho's established culinary heavyweights.
