UK Italian chain Spaghetti House collapses after 70 years in business
Spaghetti House collapses after 70 years

A popular UK Italian restaurant chain has fallen into administration after being a family business since 1955. Spaghetti House posted a notice on their website apologising to customers that all their restaurants are now closed.

Spaghetti House was founded by two friends, Simone Lavarini and Lorenzo Fraquell, back in 1955 who dreamt of treating Londoners to fresh Italian food they loved to eat back home. After opening first on Goodge Street in the capital, the chain has served customers delicious Italian food for the last 70 years. The company then expanded to five other London locations with restaurants being opened in Marble Arch, Carnaby Street, Oxford Street, Kensington and Cranbourn Street.

Customers were also able to takeaway or collect Spaghetti House classics to enjoy on the move or in the comfort of your own home. The chain has not yet disclosed on their website why they have closed all their restaurants. But on the public record The Gazette, an official notice was posted to say Lavval Restaurants Limited, the company that operates Spaghetti House, had entered administration.

Administration is where an outside party takes control of a business to rescue all or part of it - giving a company time to recover without having to go directly into liquidation. An appointment of an administrator will be made by directors, a creditor or the court to fulfil the process.

The Spaghetti House closure post read: "We are sorry all our restaurants are now closed. We'd like to express our deepest gratitude to our loyal customers, partners, and team members, past and present, for your support over the years. From our family to yours. Grazie."

Luigi Lavarini, Executive Chairman and CEO of Lavval Restaurants Limited, said: "After 70 years of serving our loyal customers, it is with a heavy heart that we announce Lavval Restaurants Limited has entered administration and will cease trading. Years of increasing costs from Brexit, the pandemic, Government budgets and global instability have created difficult market conditions for hospitality. Balancing these costs with reduced demand and spending from customers as they navigate the rising cost of living has proven too challenging. Despite best efforts and seeking professional advice, we've had to make this difficult but necessary decision to wind down our business. We're immensely proud of what our family and our incredible team have built over seven decades. Their dedication, resilience, and commitment have been at the heart of everything we have achieved. We'd like to express our deepest thanks and gratitude to our loyal customers, partners, and team members, past and present, for their support over the years."
